Abd Al Malik

Abd Al Malik, born Régis Fayette-Mikano in Paris in 1975, is a French rapper, slam poet and writer who grew up largely in Strasbourg after spending part of his childhood in Congo-Brazzaville. A leading figure of conscious rap and French-language slam, he blends poetry, jazz and a spiritual outlook rooted in Sufism. He first broke through with the group New African Poets (NAP) alongside his brother Bilal, before launching a solo career in 2004 with "Le Face à face des cœurs." His 2006 album "Gibraltar" cemented his reputation, earning critical acclaim and a Victoires de la Musique award. His lyrics explore life in the banlieues, brotherhood and social unity with rare literary elegance. Still active on stage, Abd Al Malik remains one of French rap's most thoughtful and poetic voices.
