Afropunk

Afropunk is a cultural festival born in Brooklyn in the mid-2000s, growing out of the documentary of the same name about Black punks. It has since become a major music event known for an eclectic lineup spanning rock, punk, R&B, soul and hip-hop, championed by boundary-pushing Black artists. Past editions have featured names like Ice Cube, Janelle Monáe, Tyler, the Creator and Flying Lotus. Far more than a music festival, Afropunk stands out for its commitment to Black culture at large, with dedicated spaces for activism, fashion and art. Since its founding, the event has expanded to cities around the world, becoming a key platform for the international Afro-alternative scene.
