Médine, born Médine Zaouiche in 1983 in Le Havre, France, where he grew up in the Caucriauville neighborhood, is a French rapper and founder of the label Din Records. He first gained attention in 2004 with the concept album 11 Septembre, Récit du 11e Jour, followed by Jihad, le Plus Grand Combat Est Contre Soi-Même, two records that established his reputation for socially conscious, introspective rap. A practicing Muslim, Médine has built a body of work marked by demanding lyrics addressing the struggles of migrants, discrimination, and the condition of Muslims in the West. A proudly local voice from Le Havre with strong political convictions, he has become one of the most distinctive and debated writers in contemporary French rap.
